Camel Spit & Cork Trees by Jack Montgomery

As a Baby Boomer Travel, Health & Fitness Blogger and avid reader, I recently added a new book reviews segment to my blog. My most recent read is the featured author’s latest publication called; Camel Spit & Cork Trees.

First off, if youre not quite familiar with the term Baby Boomers, then be sure to check out my introduction here on my 📰 Gr8 Travel Tips Homepage. It gives a fun detailed description on just who we Millions of Boomers Around the World are.

The title – Camel Spit & Cork Trees immediately caught my attention and just had to have a look further into its description. I was delighted to have the opportunity to read and to offer a personal review of this publication.

About The Author Of Camel Spit & Cork Trees

Camel Spit & Cork Trees Author Jack Montgomery

Originally from the Isle of Bute in Scotland, Jack Montgomery is a travel writer/photographer currently based in Portugal. As well as writing for others, he runs the award-winning travel website, Buzztrips, which has a strong focus on hiking and dining on and off the beaten track.

Specializing in Slow Travel, part of Jack’s work involves acting as a freelance consultant, designing walking/cultural holidays and writing customized travel guides for little-known locations around Europe, including Greece, Portugal, Spain, Germany, Austria, France and Slovenia.

This aspect of his job took him from the Portugal’s northern hills to its southern beaches, and from its western coastline to its eastern border with Spain. The colorful experiences notched up along the way inspired him to document his journey in Camel Spit & Cork Trees: A Year of Slow Travel Through Portugal – a travelogue about life in another country that paints a vivid picture of areas of Portugal which still lie below the radar of most visitors.

Hiking In Portugal

Over the past few years, my wife and I have become more and more aware of overcrowding at many popular tourist destinations around the world. We have experienced this on our recent travels to Thailand and the Philippines.

We have now begun searching and looking to Step Out Of The Box and visit less popular, yet still quite desirable destinations to travel to.

Jack and Andrea focus on Slow Travel Vacations that certainly fit this criteria.

We love eco friendly adventure travel which includes; biking, hiking, snorkeling & diving adventures and much more. We now do our utmost to escape the typical over tourist saturated locations and the massive crowds that come with popular destinations.

After spending 14 years living in the Canary Islands, Jack and Andrea decided to broaden their horizons and move back to the mainland. They have now made their home base in Portugal.

A country we visited briefly a few years ago while on our Western Mediterranean Cruise and loved it!

The small taste of Portugal we briefly visited was beautiful. and we do hope to return in the very near future to spend much more time exploring many parts of the country.

This is where Camel Spit & Cork Trees will take you. Tag along with Jack and Andrea as they venture on Slow Travel to many out of the way towns and villages scattered throughout the country.

Experience their adventures and misadventures along the way, with a great deal of English humor thrown into the mix!

For foodie lovers, I dont recommend reading this book on an empty stomach!

Jack has a knack for wetting your appetite and explaining in great detail, the local dishes they experience at the many eateries they visit on their slow travels throughout the country.

The book offers their own personal reviews and recommendations or not, of the many establishments they visit along the way.
