My Red Fort Images in New Delhi India
One of the many things we enjoyed during our seven weeks traveling throughout India, was visiting the many historic sites around the country.
The World Heritage Site โ The Historic ๐ Red Fort in New Delhi, was no exception.
A magnificent historical site located in the City of New Delhi, India.

The ๐Red Fort is situated at the edge of the Yamuna River in Delhi, also known as Old Delhi. This is without a doubt, one of the most popular tourist destinations in the city.
This historic Fort dates as far back as 1638, when it was constructed as the official residence and palace of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan.
It remained as an official palace for two hundred years!
Built of red sandstone, its massive walls surround the Fort for two kilometers reaching 33 meters in height in certain areas.
A very impressive site to see as you ๐ถ walk towards the main entrance of the Fort.
During its period as a reigning Fort and Palace, there was once a huge ten meter deep moat surrounding the walls of the of this massive structure at that time!
Historic Red Fort โ Inside the Walls
After making your way through the main gate, you will discover a number of outbuildings inside the walls.
These include;
โ The Drum House;
โ Hall of Public Audiences;
โ The White Marble Hall of Private Audiences;
โ The Pearl Mosque;
โ Royal Baths;
โ Palace of Color.

The red sandstone together with the incredible architecture and size of the buildings, make this historic site absolutely beautiful.
The craftsmanship is remarkable and truly unique for this Fort!
As you stroll among the buildings inside and out, you can feel yourself step back in time and imagine how life was inside these walls hundreds of years ago!
Visiting this Fort was certainly a great way to start off our 3 night stay in New Delhi, before heading by ๐ train to our next destination in India โ the ๐ช Holy City of Varanasi.
