Mission British Columbia – Travel Guide

If you’re traveling to Canada’s west coast, then be sure to stop and visit Mission British Columbia.  It’s just about an hours drive east, from the City of Vancouver. The picturesque town of Mission BC is located along the shores of the Mighty Fraser River.

Mission, BC Population

With a population of just over 35,000 and growing larger by the year, Mission is a perfect stop over community. Especially for those traveling between Vancouver and two other very popular tourist destinations; Harrison Hot Springs and the town of Hope BC.

The quaint town of Hope is famous for the Big Screen Movie Blockbuster Rambo, starring actor Sylvestor Stallone. This movie was filmed in and around the town of Hope.

First, check out this  short video on the City of Mission.

Mission BC Is Full Of History

Mission BC Tourism 2020

Mission is filled with history and named after the very first Roman Catholic Mission built in western Canada back in 1861.

Today, you can enjoy a stroll and view old foundations and more at beautiful Heritage Park, complete with breathtaking views overlooking the Fraser River and Valley.  You can also view  magnificent Mount Baker to the south in Washington State.

Today, perhaps the most predominant landmark seen approaching Mission is the beautiful Westminster Abbey church tower hovering down over the City.

This site is home to the Benedictine Monks and their beautiful church and outbuildings.

Visitors are welcome year round to enjoy the grounds, the spectacular view above and are invited to attend church service as well.

“The Sto:lo Native Indians first inhabited this land with the white man arriving in the late 1800s along with the Canadian Pacific Railway.  Mission became very popular in the early days with people arriving and laying stake to rich farm land, as well as trappers, river travelers and many others making the area home and a stop over town for supplies and more.”
