A Brief History Of Princess Cruise Line

Princess began back in 1965 with just one ship. Today, they are now the third largest cruise line in the world. Their fleet now consists of fourteen beautifully appointed ships and with more just on the horizon.
Their newest grand ships carry 3600 passengers ships and are estimated at 141,000 tons. These two ships are named; The Regal and Royal Princess.
While visiting my home City of Victoria British Columbia, I was lucky enough to capture the Regal Princess (pictured above), docked in the city one summer.

Princess Cruise Line And The Beloved Love Boat
The Love Boat Hit Television Series
If you’re a baby boomer like myself or even older, than I’m sure you remember the 1977 Hit Television Series in North America called – The Love Boat.
This extremely popular series virtually put Princess Cruise Lines on the map, making it a household name!
At that time, the Pacific Princess was their starring ship. It was the incredible success of this weekly television hit series that ran for ten full seasons, that introduced the new and exciting world of cruise vacations to the world!
Critics have often stated that The Love Boat Series is what started the cruise industry explosion worldwide.
The company’s unique brand – the “Sea Witch” logo was used back then, and is still used today on all their ships and on their advertising.

In 1972, the Island Princess (pictured above) joined the fleet. It was formerly known as the Island Venture. I recently searched online and discovered a website that outlines a brief history of Princess Cruise Lines up to and including 2008.

The Princess Fleet continues to expand, with the new Royal Class – Sky Princess making its debut in the fall of 2019. As well, two more ships are on the horizon, with the Enchanted Princess launching in June of 2020. The sixth and the final Royal-Class ship debuts in 2021.
Enchanted Princess Update 2021:
The Royal Class Enchanted Princess was set to launch in June 2020, but due to the global corona virus pandemic, launching has been delayed with an unspecified date.
These will be wonderful new additions to an already amazing line of Princess Ships!
