A Review Of The Taste Halifax Food & Beer Tour
If you have been following my blog, then you know one of our favorite things to do when traveling is taking a food tour. On our visit to Halifax, Nova Scotia we did just that. We enjoyed a wonderful driven food experience with Taste Halifax Food & Beer Tours.
A Fully Guided Driving Food, Beer & Wine Experience
Eat Halifax Food and Drink Tour

We chose the Eat Halifax Tour, just one of the many offered by this tour company. Its a full 2 hour fully guided tour, driving you to local favorite eateries, cideries, wine bars and more.
If you love tasting and discovering local dishes when you travel to new destinations, then youre going to thoroughly enjoy this food tour. This tour will also share a bit of the history of the city as you make your way along the streets of Halifax.
An ideal food and drink tour for foodie, craft beer and wine enthusiasts.
A Look At Our Eat Halifax Tour

Our guide for this tour (Patrick) arrived at our hotel with his driver right at the pre-arranged time. We were given a short introduction of what to expect and the places we were going to visit while on the tour.
We were then on our way to our first stop!

Patrick explained that on this tour , there would be 5 tasting stops in various places throughout the city. We were going to taste and sample various local food favorites, as well as cider, beer & wine during our tour.
We would also be visiting some historic sites along the way including; Citadel Hill and the historic Hydrostone Neighborhood.
Goldwater Seafoods Halifax

Our first stop was to a very popular retail seafood outlet and eatery, along Halifaxs waterfront. Here, were able to meet the owner, who was also a long time lobster fisherman.
He gave us an excellent recap on the lobster fishery in Nova Scotia and the importance to the economy and livelihood of residents in the Province.

We were then able to taste a sample of fresh lobster inside the very popular Lobster Roll dish on the East Coast of Canada. Alongside a few potato chips, it was delicious!
Chain Yard Urban Cidery

After a short visit and thoroughly enjoying our taste of fresh lobster, it was time to hop back in the van and make our way to our next stop.
The Chain Yard Urban Cidery is a very unique and one of a kind Cider and eatery in the city. A very popular local establishment and for very good reasons.
The food and cider tasting was superb!

Theres a huge selection of ciders available to choose from, along with craft beer, wine and non-alcoholic choices.

We enjoyed tasting their popular Hoppin Bitter Berry Cider, a base blended with cranberry and raspberry wine. Aged on strawberry lees mixed with Centennial hops.
We also tried the Synthecyser, a blend of Foundation & honey wine. Floral & honey aromatics.
Food Sampling At The Chain Yard

We sampled some delicious Southern Fried Chicken with UK Apple Slaw. This dish was incredible, exploding with flavour. A perfect match and pairing with your favorite chosen beverage.
We were also treated to Coconut Curry Spice Krispies. Another very special and unique item from their unchained kitchen menu.
Its no wonder this place is packed throughout the day. Everything was superb!
Salvatore’s Restaurant Halifax

Time to move on to our next stop and another local hidden gem located in an historic section of town. Here, we sampled some of the best gourmet pizza we have ever experienced, and weve tried a lot of different pizza over the years!

With freshly prepared dough and specialty ingredients, you simply could not get enough of this fabulous pizza. Another great stop on this food tour you will absolutely love!
Johnny K’s Donairs

Our next visit would be to the nightclub zone of the city, along with numerous eateries. One of the most favorite in the area is Johnny Ks Donairs.
We have gone back to the origins of making a true authentic donair, in-house, using the original recipe that made the donair world famous.
Outstanding freshly prepared Donairs that were just mouth watering. Full of flavour and dripping with sauce, they were exceptional.

This tour really gives you the opportunity to visit some exceptional local favorite hidden gems, that you would not normally discover on your own. Just one of the many great reasons to take a food tour when traveling to new destinations.
The Mercantile Social

Last on the list and for a taste of upper scale class, we moved on to The Mercantile Social. A Kitchen, Cocktails & Wine establishment in the city. A casual but more fine dining and drinking establishment downtown.

Here we sampled Nova Scotias very own wines. A taste of their specialty red and white.

As well, we were treated to a cup of freshly prepared seafood chowder. A perfect ending to this wonderful tour.

Our guide Patrick was outstanding and a lot of fun! The food and drink sampling was delicious. If all the food we tasted wasnt enough, he had a special gourmet doughnut treat for us as we said our goodbyes.
