Van Isle Rubber Surfacing On Vancouver Island
Why is this guy talking about driveways and Van Isle Rubber Surfacing on a travel, health and fitness website you may be asking yourself. Well, I am all for any eco-friendly – go green products out there in the marketplace, that have a positive impact on our environment.
I recently had my driveway and back patio resurfaced with an environmentally conscientious rubber surfacing product, that utilizes recycled rubber materials.
Not only is it Eco Friendly, but its a fraction of the cost of removing my existing asphalt driveway!
Its much more effective and eco-friendly than having the removed asphalt hauled away somewhere to be dumped and then resurfaced with new asphalt.
About Vancouver Island Rubber Surfacing
This small Better Bureau Accredited business has over 20 Years experience in the rubber poured in place industry. They are a small independent company, with their home base situated on Vancouver Island.
With their extensive knowledge of this increasingly popular industry, having numerous positive testimonials and the fact that I always shop locally if possible;
It was an easy choice for me!
Why You Should Choose Rubber Surfacing
First and foremost, rubber resurfacing is an environmentally friendly product using eco-friendly Styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) and Ethylene Propylene Diene Terpolymer (EPDM) products.
Rubber Surfacing is also very Cost Effective. For example, it can be up to 30-40% less than concrete removal and replacement. Asphalt replacement can even be more costly.
Van Isle Rubber Surfacing Installation Process
Prior to the project you wish to have completed, the entire surface will be thoroughly pressured washed by the Van Isle team.
After your supplies are delivered, your install professionals will attend on a day that meets the requirements needed, to install the product properly.
It must be dry weather with no rain in the forecast for at least 24 hours. Temperatures should ideally not drop below 10 degrees Celsius at night.
Van Isle Rubber Surfacing – Installation Team
A full team of installers will arrive on your scheduled install date to begin work on your project.
Its like their setting up an outdoor kitchen, preparing their ingredients under the tent!
One person will mix the bagged rubber granules with a special formulated binder, making it ready to be poured onto the surface youve selected.
The other installers will then pour the mixture onto the surface, which is then troweled by their team of experienced professionals.
This binding agent that the team adds to the mixture, will produce a very strong, unbreakable, anti-skid, flexible surface. Water will filter through the strong rubber sub-base, and the direction in which it is sloping, will be where the excess water will drain away.
This rubber surfacing in known to withstand literally tons of pressure and the most
severe of weather conditions!
“EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Terpolymer) rubber has been proven to cope with the harshest environments, including the winters of Canada.”
Our Selected Project – Before Photos
These photos show our driveway and front door porch area, before resurfacing.
The entire surface was sun baked with large cracks, dips and with uneven sections throughout.
Front Door Porch Area:
It consisted of concrete with embedded small rocks. The concrete was all old and cracked, with the rocks becoming loose constantly.
A real mess!!
Below, is our driveway portion located at the side of the house where we park our recreational vehicle trailer.
This part was a real mess and eye sore, cracked and sloping badly!
Back Covered Porch Area:
As you can see, our back porch was an unpainted plain concrete surface. We were continually having to pressure wash the area to keep it clean.
Adding an attractive eco-friendly rubber surface, will definitely be a big improvement to the overall look of the porch.
Our Selected Project – Installing Rubber Surface
Once the rubber mixture is prepared, it is then poured onto the surface and carefully troweled by the installers.
We were able to pick from a variety of colors available, that flowed nicely with the color of our home and trim!
Our Selected Project – Completed
In wrapping things up, if you are in the market for a driveway, patio, sidewalk, swimming pool surface project, then consider an eco-friendly rubber surface alternative.
We were so glad we chose this for our driveway, front porch and back patio!
